What to Look for in a Children's Urgent Care Center

When your child is sick and they can’t get in the pediatrician or you’re contemplating going to the ER, choose a well reputed children’s urgent care instead. You want the best possible care and experience for your child.

A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to experience behind the scenes of the #ChildrensHealthPMUrgentCare in McKinney. Some of the things that stood out to me were:

  • The biggest stand out was that this is a children’s only urgent care. Children get specialized care here.

  • Highly qualified staff: Board-certified Pediatricians, paramedics and registered nurses with extensive pediatric experience.

  • Excellent accessibility: Open 12PM to 12AM, 365 days a year.

  • Efficient: Significantly faster check in. Average door to door time is 50 min. That’s fast!

  • In house x-rays and basic labs.

  • They help primary care pediatricians. If the pediatricians are too busy, they can send their patients to this facility to be seen promptly. They partner with and do not compete with the community pediatricians and refer patients back to their medical home for follow up along with any relevant records. Children with no set pediatrician actually get referred to a primary care pediatrician.

  • Walk-in or book a slot online which holds their place in line.

  • Cost similar to an office visit depending on your insurance plan.

  • Kind, attentive and efficient staff.

  • They take most insurances including certain kinds of Medicaid.

  • They have locations in McKinney, Colony and Flower Mound and a new one is opening in Richardson as well!

In short, this is an excellent children’s urgent care model and I know exactly where to go when we need to. #ad
